Fleas and Ticks
Fleas come in on pets and rodents, ticks come home from the park. Both need a plan, not a spray can.
Where they thrive
Fleas: pets, rodent nests, carpets. Ticks: tall grass, leaf litter and park edges.
How they behave
Flea eggs drop into carpets and wait for footsteps. Ticks climb grass and grab on; they cannot jump.
In New York City
Blacklegged ticks carry Lyme disease in parks on Staten Island and in the Bronx.
Did you know?
When rats are removed, their fleas go looking for a new host. Rodent jobs need flea checks.
