Drain Flies
Fuzzy little flies that breed in the slime inside drains, which is why cleaning the cover never fixes them.

Where they come from
Found worldwide. Also called sewer gnats or filter flies, after the sewage filters they breed in.
Where they thrive
The slimy film in floor drains, sinks and grease traps, dry drain traps and broken pipes under slabs.
How they behave
Fuzzy, moth-like and tiny. Weak fliers that hop short distances and rest on walls near drains.
In New York City
A constant in restaurant floor drains, bar sinks and older buildings with cracked plumbing.
Did you know?
Bleach does not work. It rushes past the slime layer where the larvae live.
